Duncan Regional Hospital (DRH Health) in the US has implemented Becton, Dickinson and Company’s (BD) Alaris electronic medical record (EMR) interoperability with the MEDITECH electronic health record (EHR).

The move aims to improve efficiency in workflows, enhance patient safety and support clinicians.

Alaris EMR Interoperability has been launched at more than 960 locations across the US.

By extending this functionality to MEDITECH, BD will be able to provide enhanced infusion interoperability across all three major EHR platforms in the US, thereby expanding access for healthcare organisations throughout the country.

DRH Health vice-president and chief operating officer Roger Neal said: “With the current nursing shortage, this integration eliminates many small, repetitive tasks our nurses perform every day, allowing them to spend more time with patients and improving efficiency across our health system.

“This integration brings important safety features to one of the most complex processes in healthcare, and we're confident it will result in safer administration, better documentation, more consistent infusion workflows, and greater satisfaction for our nursing teams and most importantly our patients.”

BD Alaris enables linking of infusion pumps into MEDITECH's Patient Care and Patient Safety solution.

Clinicians will now be able to scan for verifying smart pumps, confirm patient identities and medications, transmit infusion orders straight from MEDITECH to BD Alaris pumps, and receive infusion updates back into the EHR.

The solution minimises error-prone steps and manual programming, as well as facilitates near real-time documentation.

It also aids in guaranteeing that the appropriate patient receives the correct medication at the proper dosage, all while enhancing safety overall.

In September 2025, Henry Ford Health and BD announced a collaboration for prescription services and medication storage.
