US-based health system Jefferson Health has finished building the Honickman Center, a multi-speciality outpatient care facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The 19-storey centre covers around 462,000ft² and is due to open to patients on 15 April.

It will house more than 300 exam rooms, 58 infusion chairs, six endoscopy rooms, ten operating rooms, an onsite lab, a pharmacy and radiology services.

One of the Honickman Center's features is a digital whiteboard developed by Jefferson, which aims to allow clinicians in remote locations to join appointments in real time, connecting patients to multiple doctors at once.

Upon its full opening, the Honickman Center will host several care centres, including the Vickie & Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience, Jefferson Transplant Institute, Nicoletti Kidney Transplant Center, the Honickman Breast Imaging Center and the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center.

It will also house the Jefferson Heart and Vascular Institute and the Jane and Leonard Korman Respiratory Institute – Jefferson Health and National Jewish Health.

Among the speciality practices to be offered at the new centre are gastroenterology & hepatology, otolaryngology head and neck surgery, haematology, nephrology, rheumatology, general surgery, urology and infectious diseases.

The Honickman Center project is a collaborative effort between Jefferson and National Real Estate Development, with Ennead Architects responsible for the building’s design.

It is the final phase of National Development's East Market development, a project worth more than $1bn that has rejuvenated the East Market Street corridor.

The centre’s construction generated an estimated $772m in Philadelphia, creating 4,120 jobs over the four-year development period and contributing $25m in tax and fee revenue to the city.

Jefferson CEO Joseph Cacchione said: “The Honickman Center stands as our flagship medical facility in Center City and as epicentre of a more than $1bn urban development project in East Market.

“The Honickman Center will offer convenient and centralised access to a broad range of signature medical specialities.”
