NSW government opens public consultation on Glen Innes hospital

The redevelopment is part of a broader A$3.5bn investment to upgrade hospitals across the state.

The government of the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) has initiated a public consultation regarding the redevelopment of Glen Innes hospital, with the review of environmental factors now accessible for community input.

An investment of A$50m ($32.35m) is being allocated to the hospital project to improve healthcare infrastructure for Glen Innes and its surrounding regions.

The redevelopment is part of a broader A$3.5bn investment up to 2029 to upgrade hospitals across NSW.

It will create a new acute services facility on the existing hospital campus, which will include an expanded emergency department, ambulance drop-off facilities and bays, a mortuary and medical imaging services.

A new main entrance from Ferguson Street will improve accessibility to health services for visitors, patients and caregivers, featuring a drop-off area situated outside the new building.

The government has also released the new hospital building’s updated fly-through animation, providing a comprehensive overview of the acute services facility, complete with proposed finishes and interiors.

Timelines of construction will be confirmed once planning permissions and contractor appointments are completed, with construction commencing early in 2026.

NSW Regional Health Minister Ryan Park stated: “The Glen Innes hospital redevelopment will provide patients, families and carers with a modern health facility to meet the health needs of the community now, and into the future.

“The Minns government is improving access to care in our regional, rural and remote communities following 12 years of neglect by the Liberals. More hospitals and more beds, more quickly – lower wait times – it's as simple as that.”

In September 2025, the NSW government allocated A$1.6m ($1.05m) for infrastructure projects at Maclean District Hospital to improve staff safety and patient care.
