OneCare Vermont and Heidi Health have launched a partnership aimed at alleviating the administrative burden faced by medical practitioners while enhancing the quality of care for patients across Vermont, US.

As part of this collaboration, OneCare Vermont will offer 12 subscriptions to Heidi Health's AI medical scribe for numerous independent provider practices throughout the state.

Heidi claims that its AI medical scribe streamlines more than two hours of daily administrative tasks by processing and transcribing clinician-patient conversations, as well as generating clinical notes and follow-up materials. This enables clinicians to concentrate on providing quality care to their patients.

According to the 2020 Census, 65% of Vermont's residents reside in rural areas, positioning it as one of the most rural states in the US.

Between 2019 and 2024, an estimated 3,300 rural medical practices shut down while rural America lost nearly 2,500 independent physicians.

Heidi Health co-founder and CEO Dr Thomas Kelly said: "The partnership with OneCare Vermont could not come at a more urgent time. Rural health systems and practitioners are currently experiencing unprecedented strain. Our tools help reduce some of that burden by returning time and wellbeing to those on the front lines of care.”

Developed by medical professionals, Heidi Health seamlessly integrates with the existing electronic health record (EHR) systems of primary care providers, eliminating the need for costly rebuilds or the loss of functionality.

The platform automates clinical documentation in a personalised manner, learning how doctors prefer to take notes and adapting its outputs accordingly. This not only alleviates the cognitive burden on healthcare providers but also helps to reduce burnout.

OneCare Vermont chief medical officer Dr Carrie Weigand said: "Heidi's AI scribe tool is going to restore precious time to our clinicians, allowing them to spend more time with patients and less time on tedious documentation.

"The partnership signifies much more than a healthcare organisation adapting to the times; it's a true representation of our collective commitment to preserving the heart of Vermont's healthcare system."

Heidi is claimed to currently facilitate nearly two million patient interactions each week and has been implemented in over 50 countries, spanning more than 200 specialities and available in 110 languages.
