SportsMed Physical Therapy has acquired WeCare Medical PT and Wellness in Maplewood in the US state of New Jersey.

This acquisition increases SportsMed’s total number of clinics to 51 across New Jersey and Connecticut, and enhances access to patient-centred care throughout the region.

The Maplewood Clinic provides HomeCare services, chiropractic care, acupuncture, occupational and hand therapy, and physical therapy.

Each treatment plan is created with an emphasis on clinical excellence and tailored recovery.

SportsMed Physical Therapy CEO Peter Ponzini stated: “We're proud to expand our presence in Essex County, with the acquisition of WeCare Medical PT and Wellness located in Maplewood, New Jersey. This latest acquisition reinforces our commitment to bringing high quality, patient-centred care to individuals in both Union and Essex Counties.”

Since forming a partnership with New York-based private equity company Hildred Capital Management in 2018, SportsMed has expanded from seven to 51 locations, consistently progressing its mission to enhance lives through recovery and movement.

SportsMed is a portfolio company of Hildred Capital Management, which is focused on lower middle market healthcare enterprises.

For the acquisition, Knight and Holland acted as legal counsel to SportsMed.

The multi-disciplinary physical therapy company was established in 2004 and provides a range of wellness and outpatient rehabilitation services.

Hildred Capital Management has a focus on the healthcare sector and aims to identify opportunities for value creation within middle-market companies.

It collaborates with management teams to facilitate the scaling of their platforms, enhance earnings growth, implement operational and strategic improvements, foster business development and achieve multiple expansion.

In September 2025, SportsMed announced the opening of its new clinic in Neptune, New Jersey.
