Australia's New South Wales (NSW) Government has started construction on the A$95m ($62.6m) redevelopment project of Temora Hospital in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.

This project is aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure for Temora and its surrounding communities.

The project will enable the hospital to enhance its service capacity by incorporating a purpose-built operating theatre, a new procedure room, and an expanded medical imaging unit. For the first time, this hospital will provide local patients with access to CT and ultrasound services, claimed the health ministry.

The services to be provided will encompass an emergency department, an inpatient unit catering to medical, surgical, maternity, rehabilitation, and palliative care, as well as birthing facilities.

Allied health services and ambulatory clinics, complete with a gymnasium, will also be available.

The hospital will offer mental health, community health, and drug and alcohol services.

It will feature enhanced car parking facilities and distinct entrances for emergency and service vehicles as part of the design.

Richard Crookes Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the project after a competitive tendering process. The redevelopment is on track to be completed in 2028.

NSW health minister Ryan Park said: “The start of construction is a significant step in delivering a high-quality health facility that will serve the Temora and surrounding Murrumbidgee communities for generations to come.

“The A$95m investment will ensure the local community has better access to high-quality health care in a modern health facility closer to home, including an improved emergency department, inpatient unit, maternity, operating theatre and expanded medical imaging services.”
