VectorCare has launched the new Lyft Smart on FHIR App to integrate Lyft's patient transportation network directly into the Epic electronic health record (EHR) workflow.
The app, which is built using Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards, is accessible via the Epic App Market and enables healthcare teams to manage and arrange patient transport without leaving the EHR system.
It is powered by VectorCare’s patient logistics platform and aims to increase access to care for patients who require reliable transportation, facilitate faster patient discharges, and reduce missed appointments.
The Lyft Smart on FHIR App links Epic users with Lyft’s transportation services within the EHR interface.
It also enables case managers and care coordinators to order, schedule and monitor rides securely in real time.
Key features of the application include automated data synchronisation using FHIR APIs to securely populate patient and appointment details, real-time ride tracking within the EHR, and the ability to schedule Lyft rides from a patient’s chart in Epic.
The solution also supports streamlined patient discharges by enabling timely transport to home or post-acute care.
Epic is said to be the first EHR platform where the Lyft Smart on FHIR App is available.
Healthcare organisations can activate the application via the Epic App Market and deploy it within hours.
The app uses VectorCare’s Smart on FHIR framework, allowing Lyft’s transportation services to be embedded natively within healthcare workflows.

The Lyft Smart on FHIR App is currently available for all Epic health system customers and its future versions are planned to support additional FHIR-enabled EHR platforms, expanding access to Lyft’s healthcare transportation services across the US.
In March 2025, Priority Dispatch entered a partnership with VectorCare to integrate its emergency dispatch protocols into the latter’s suite of customisable patient logistics tools.
