AI startup VitVio has secured $8m in a seed funding round, taking its total funding raised to $10m.
The company's platform is designed to streamline the coordination of operating room personnel, identify potential delays, and alleviate the administrative burdens faced by surgical teams.
The funding round was led by Bek Ventures, joined by Thornapple River Capital, Tiny Supercomputer Investment Company, LDV Capital, Balnord, ElevenLabs founder Mati Staniszewski, and others.
The funds raised will support VitVio’s expansion across US hospitals.
The company stated that operating rooms account for approximately 40% of hospital expenses and up to 60% of total revenue, making their efficiency vital to financial performance.
Inefficiencies in turnover, scheduling, and resource use add an estimated $1,800 per surgery, or $1.4m yearly per operating room, resulting in $50bn in avoidable costs throughout the US.
VitVio added that hospitals remain under pressure due to post-surgical resource needs, rising costs, and ageing populations.
Its platform assists perioperative leaders and hospitals in alleviating these challenges by automating the collection and analysis of intra-operative data, as well as visualising, predicting, and enhancing operational performance.
VitVio utilises advanced AI, computer vision, and ambient sensing technologies to create real-time 3D digital representations of operating rooms.
This approach allows for a comprehensive understanding of the activities taking place, identifying who is performing specific tasks, at what time, in which location, and for what purpose.
With this input, AI agents automate routine tasks such as tracking surgical phases such as patient arrival, incision, and wound closure, while also coordinating with staff throughout the perioperative process.
The intelligent system ensures all personnel are informed, aligned, and operations are managed autonomously.
It provides real-time estimates for surgery completion and sends dynamic alerts if there are deviations from standard procedures. All patient data is anonymised immediately upon capture and is claimed to be securely managed using end-to-end encryption.
By integrating a secure dashboard into hospital information systems, VitVio claims to offer actionable insights on utilisation, case flow, and resource allocation.
This approach allows hospitals to identify bottlenecks, reduce waste, and improve scheduling accuracy, leading to enhanced efficiency and financial benefits, stated the company.
VitVio co-founder and CEO Thomas Knox said: “Hospitals everywhere are under immense pressure - escalating expenses, demographic shifts, and ongoing staffing constraints are stretching systems to the limit.
“VitVio gives hospitals a way out of that cycle. By automating the administrative load that drains time and margin, we help clinicians focus on patients and help hospitals operate sustainably.”
