AI-powered healthcare start-up Ambience Healthcare has secured $70m in its Series B investment round in the US.
The fundraiser was jointly led by American venture capital company Kleiner Perkins and OpenAI Startup Fund.
It also saw the participation of current investors Andreessen Horowitz and Optum Ventures.
Ambience Healthcare’s AI operating system offers an ecosystem of applications designed to improve efficiency and care quality within hospitals and healthcare organisations.
By utilising a single shared brain, the system addresses structural inefficiencies in vital organisational initiatives such as prior authorisation, utilisation management, and clinical trial matching.
With the latest investment, Ambience Healthcare aims to accelerate its product roadmap, build dedicated teams for its existing and future health system partners, as well as advance AI foundation models for medicine.

The company, which is based in California, US, has also reserved a portion of the raise for potential strategic partners. These include Memorial Hermann, which invested after witnessing the platform’s positive impact across various care settings such as ambulatory, inpatient and emergency departments.
OpenAI chief operating officer and manager of the OpenAI Startup Fund Brad Lightcap said: “Healthcare is one of AI’s most promising opportunities to create an outsized positive impact on the world. Ambience Healthcare has built an incredible team to focus on providing a complete ecosystem of products that seamlessly fit into the workflow of practitioners, pushing both AI and medicine forward.”
Meanwhile, Ambience Healthcare will continue to further develop its suite of applications, which includes the real-time AI medical scribe ‘AutoScribe’, the point-of-care CDI assistant ‘AutoCDI’, the referral letter composing software ‘AutoRefer’, and the after-visit summary tool ‘AutoAVS’.
It also includes the upcoming ‘AutoPrep’, which will offer intelligent pre-charting for clinicians.
The latest announcement follows Ambience’s commercial progress, with deployments across healthcare organisations such as Memorial Hermann Health System, UCSF, John Muir Health, The Oncology Institute, GI Alliance, and Eventus WholeHealth.
Last month, virtual care clinic Midi Health collaborated with Ambience Healthcare to improve its speciality services with the latter’s generative AI platform.
Ambience Healthcare will use the investment to accelerate its product roadmap and build dedicated teams for health system partners.
