Burjeel Medical City has announced the launch of the Al Muderis Osseointegration Clinic, introducing an amputee care technique to the Middle East.

Named after orthopaedic surgeon Dr Munjed Al Muderis, the clinic is part of the Paley Middle East Clinic.

The launch event was attended by Dr Al Muderis, Paley Middle East Clinic founder Dr Dror Paley and Burjeel Holdings’ senior leadership.

The clinic’s central feature is the osseointegrated prosthetic limb (OPL) system. This approach involves a titanium implant that fuses with the bone and protrudes through the skin to connect with an external prosthesis.

This method of attachment aims to replicate natural limb movement and addresses several drawbacks associated with traditional socket prosthetics.

Burjeel Holdings Group CEO John Sunil said: “The launch of the Al Muderis Osseointegration Clinic reinforces our commitment to bringing the world’s most advanced medical solutions to our communities.

“We envision this clinic not only as a centre of excellence for patient care but also as a hub for knowledge transfer. Through surgeon training, research initiatives, and community outreach, we will extend this innovation across the UAE and beyond.”

Traditional prosthetic limbs often lead to discomfort, skin complications and joint issues. In contrast, the osseointegration technique offers a natural, stable and comfortable prosthetic experience.

The OPL system enhances balance and comfort and also enables users to experience osseoperception, which allows them to sense feedback through their prosthetic limb.

In February, Burjeel Holdings inaugurated an orthopaedic institute at Burjeel Medical City.

The Burjeel Orthopedic Institute provides care for adults and children, encompassing surgery, rehabilitation, bone cancer treatment and sports medicine.
