Lifepoint Health’s business unit Lifepoint Behavioral Health has begun developing a behavioural health hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, US, in collaboration with Mercy Health-Youngstown.

The start of construction of the Mercy Health Behavioral Hospital was marked by a ground-breaking ceremony.

The 61,900ft² hospital will feature 72 beds and provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient mental health services.

The facility will cater to adults and geriatric patients experiencing different mental health conditions, including bipolar disorder, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, psychosis, personality disorders, and co-occurring substance abuse.

It will also offer a partial hospitalisation programme and an intensive outpatient programme.

Mercy Health Behavioral Hospital’s architectural design is intended to foster a therapeutic healing environment, with open spaces, community areas, courtyards, clinical support facilities and other patient amenities.

Once open, the hospital will become part of Lifepoint Behavioral Health’s network, which includes more than 20 freestanding behavioural health hospitals in the US.

Lifepoint Behavioral Health and Lifepoint Rehabilitation president Russ Bailey said: “Our teams at Lifepoint Behavioral Health and Lifepoint Rehabilitation are pleased to bring new and expanded speciality services to the Mahoning Valley alongside Mercy Health.

“Mercy Health shares our commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care, and we look forward to expanding access to vitally needed behavioural health services to Youngstown-area residents when we open Mercy Health Behavioral Hospital in the fall of 2025.

“As we celebrate the start of construction, I look forward to seeing all the ways we will advance our mission of making communities healthier in partnership with Mercy Health.”

Mercy Health Behavioral Hospital is being developed as part of a joint venture (JV) established between Mercy Health-Youngstown and Lifepoint Behavioral Health in January 2023.

Under this JV, Mercy Health and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, another Lifepoint Health division, began the construction of Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital last year.
