The facility is currently in development and is due to be completed by 2026.

Skanska has booked this contract under its US order bookings for Q3 2023.

Earlier this year, the company signed a contract worth around Skr1.1bn for the Lakeland hospital.

It also developed Orlando Health’s Jewett Orthopedic Institute, which began treating patients in March this year.

According to a report by LkldNow, the south Lakeland facility is being built at the southeast corner of Polk Parkway on an 80-acre site at Lakeland Highlands Road.

The multi-storey acute care facility will feature a 48-bed emergency department, 30 intensive care rooms, 16 rooms for a women’s birthing programme and additional shelled space for a neonatal intensive care unit.

The construction of Orlando Health Lakeland Highlands Hospital was first announced in 2021.

The facility was originally planned to have only 136 beds, but this was increased to 360 after a feasibility study was carried out to understand the demand for hospital beds in Lakeland.

Orlando Health currently has $9.2bn of assets under management, including 29 hospitals and emergency departments.

Of the group’s hospitals, 24 are currently operational and five are due to open soon.
