The Government of Western Australia (WA) has appointed the Multiplex Constructions and Perkins joint venture (JV) as the main contractor for the redevelopment of Bunbury Regional Hospital.  

The project will add more medical and intensive care beds and expand the hospital’s existing emergency department.  

It will also increase the capacity of the operating theatre, as well as deliver new maternity, birthing, and neonatal services. New clinical equipment, sterilisation, and support facilities will also be provided as part of the project.  

The new maternity and neonatal unit will enable more births to occur close to home at Bunbury Regional Hospital.  

A dedicated mental health observation area and enlarged mental health inpatient facilities are also part of the refurbishment plan. 

In addition, this project will deliver the region's first teaching, training, and research centre.  

The redevelopment will involve an investment of A$277.9m ($180.4m). 

Early critical works on the Bunbury Regional Hospital, which includes establishing a new car park, were completed in 2022. 

The process to select a managing contractor for the design and construction of the hospital began with an initial expression of interest in February of the previous year, followed by a request for proposal (RFP) released in June 2023.  

The RFP phase allowed prospective managing contractors to present comprehensive proposals, including pricing and key milestone dates, for the execution of the project. 

According to the WA government, an additional A$173m will be provided as part of the 2024-25 State Budget for Bunbury Regional Hospital redevelopment.

“Bunbury Regional Hospital is an important community healthcare hub for the entire region and the Cook Government's investment will ensure it meets the needs of the South West community now and into the future.”
