Somerset Indus Capital Partners, a healthcare-focused private equity (PE) company, has announced an investment in NU Hospitals, an India-based speciality hospital chain that provides nephrology and urology care.
The amount of investment has not been divulged by either party
This transaction represents Somerset Indus Capital Partners’ third investment from its third fund.
Established in 1999, NU Hospitals specialises in nephrology, urology, fertility, and renal transplant services.
The investment from Somerset Indus Capital Partners will be utilised to support the next phase of NU Hospitals' growth, including expansion into new markets and bolstering its operational capabilities to cater to a larger patient base both in India and abroad.
NU Hospitals is claimed to have seen steady organic growth over the years, underpinned by robotics-enabled surgical capabilities and advanced infrastructure.
The hospital chain is also focused on medical education and research, operating DNB (Diplomate National Board) programmes and publishing research annually.
Its facilities have garnered multiple accreditations, including NABH, NABL, FEQH, and ISAR.
Commenting on the investment, NU Hospitals managing director Dr Prasanna Venkatesh stated that the partnership would enable the organisation to broaden access to specialised kidney and urology care, while upholding rigorous standards of clinical governance.
Ramesh Kannan, partner at Somerset Indus Capital Partners, noted that the company was attracted to NU Hospitals due to its doctor-led approach and expertise in tackling the increasing incidence of chronic kidney disease in India.
In October, NU Hospitals announced a strategic partnership with MedLern, a healthcare training platform that supports the people strategy of more than 350 hospitals.
Under this collaboration, the hospital chain integrated Laerdal Medical’s Modular Skills Trainer (MST) into its core training programmes run on MedLern.
NU Hospitals has already deployed its training on MedLern’s digital platform and provides hands-on clinical skills practice and assessment on the MST.
