Bacteria are present in our everyday environment, but certain microbes are harmful and if left unchecked can proliferate and cause infections. There is a need to carefully control these in a hospital environment where healthcare-acquired infection still presents a challenge to many hospitals.

Intersurgical provide a range of breathing systems for both anaesthesia and intensive care which contain an anti-microbial additive, Silver Knight.

The anti-microbial additive uses silver ions that interfere with the metabolic activities of microbes, preventing them from reproducing and proliferating.

Constant handling of breathing systems by hospital personnel can increase the risk of pathogens being spread. By reducing the number of pathogens on the breathing system, transmission between infected patients may be minimised and the proliferation of pathogens reduced.

Silver Knight breathing systems have been proven to reduce the proliferation of the following pathogens:

  • Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus
  • Staphylococcus epidermis
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Klebsiella pnuemoniae
  • Acinetobacter calcoaceticus
  • Escherichia coli
