United Medical Centers (UMC Health) has chosen NextGen Healthcare as its preferred technology partner to enhance integrated care delivery in bilingual communities along the US-Mexico border.

UMC Health, a Patient-Centred Medical Home-recognised and a Joint Commission-accredited community health centre, is committed to ensuring the availability of primary and preventive healthcare services for all residents within its service area.

As a federally qualified health centre (FQHC), UMC Health has served the southwest Texas cities of Brackettville, Del Rio, and Eagle Pass since 1973.

The health centre's service regions mainly include Kinney, Maverick, and Val Verde counties, situated in Southwest Texas on the US-Mexico border.

With nine locations, UMC Health provides a range of services, including family medicine, paediatric care, internal medicine, obstetrics-gynaecology, dental, cardiology, podiatry, and pharmacy services.

UMC Health is also planning to introduce mammography services this quarter and to launch its tenth site later this year.

As part of the latest collaboration, NextGen Healthcare will provide its electronic health record (EHR) and practice management solution to support integration across various specialities and care sites as UMC Health expands and introduces new offerings.

In addition, UMC Health is implementing NextGen Patient Engage and NextGen Self-Scheduling solutions powered by Luma.

These solutions will allow patients to self-schedule appointments, join waitlists for quicker appointments, complete intake forms, and communicate with staff via their mobile devices in over 20 different languages.

Additionally, NextGen Mobile will provide UMC Health's providers with the flexibility to chart from their homes or any location using their phones.

UMC Health CEO William Worrell said: “We are always thinking about how we can elevate care delivery. It became apparent in recent years that improving integration and alleviating the documentation burden on staff were key priorities.

“NextGen Healthcare’s offerings will allow us to make significant strides in those two areas so we can focus on doing what we love—serving these close-knit communities.”

In January, NextGen Healthcare was selected by Spectrum Healthcare to provide its solutions for improving clinical and financial performance across the latter’s care sites in Arizona.
