Novant Health, a not-for-profit, integrated healthcare system based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has opened its new Haymarket Medical Center in northern Virginia, thereby adding another hospital to its four-state network.
The new four-storey, 60-bed, 221,000ft² facility encompasses emergency care, surgery, cancer care, women’s and children’s services, including maternity care, imaging, cardiac diagnostics, interventional radiology and critical care.

It becomes the 15th medical centre in Novant Health’s network.
Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center features all-private patient rooms with ample space to accommodate family and visitors.
The first floor is equipped with a 20-room emergency department, cardiac diagnostics, interventional radiology, a patient care unit, a café, a gift shop, conference rooms, an interfaith room of reflection, financial counselling and guest services.

The second floor provides surgical services with four state-of-the-art operating rooms and one procedure room on one end and women’s and children’s care on the other end with a labour and delivery unit, two dedicated caesarean section operating rooms, a well-baby nursery and postpartum unit.

By GlobalDataThe third floor consists of a critical care unit, medical/surgical unit, inpatient rehabilitation and a pharmacy.
The facility provides computers in every patient room for bedside documentation, and in order to reduce travel distances for caregivers and to promote safety and quality, supplies, medication and equipment are located at the bedside.
The facility also has a direct access elevator, which can take patients directly from the emergency room to the surgical floor or critical care unit.
The facility is also equipped with high definition, digital and wireless video recording capabilities in the operating room and mini-refrigerators in postpartum rooms.
Novant Health northern Virginia market president Melissa Robson said the hospital is fortunate to have had the vision of its board of trustees, who had the foresight to bring care to western Prince William County.
"Now, the communities we serve will no longer have to travel for high-quality care that is close to home," Robson added.
The main entrance of the hospital at 15225 Heathcote Boulevard provides ample space for vehicles to drop off and pick up patients.
A separate ambulance entrance nearest to the on-site helipad is away from the main entrance to provide patient privacy.
All entrances, including the emergency room, are located at the rear of the facility facing Interstate 66 for easy patient access.
Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center employs a staff of nearly 300.
