The top five companies accounted for 11% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Koninklijke Philips filed the most connected care patents within the healthcare industry in Q2 2023. The company filed 24 connected care-related patents in the quarter, compared with 33 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Abbott Laboratories with 19 connected care patent filings, johnson & johnson (17 filings), and DexCom (15 filings) in Q2 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 50% share of total patent filings
The largest share of connected care related patent filings in the healthcare industry in Q2 2023 was in the US with 50%, followed by China (19%) and Japan (6%). The share represented by the US was 5% higher than the 45% share it accounted for in Q1 2023.
