The scope of work on the $248m (C$300m) expansion project will include an upgrade of the existing facility, replacing the current mental health space and construction of a new acute care tower.

The total number of beds at the facility is expected to increase by about 40% along with additional space for future expansion if required.

Stantec will provide architecture, interiors, structural, mechanical, electrical, information management, civil, landscape, acoustics, heliport, geomatics, and sustainability consulting services for both Cariboo Memorial Hospital and Prince Albert Victoria Hospital.

Work on the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority project will involve the construction of a new hospital in Moosonee, Ontario that will replace the current Weeneebayko General facility on Moose Factory Island.

The new facility will feature an expanded emergency department, dialysis treatments and diagnostic imaging, inpatient beds in private rooms, new surgical suites, and expanded mental health and addictions programming.

It will also include a new lodge for local elders to stay in the community while receiving care.

Additionally, the existing Weeneebayko General Hospital will be renovated into a healthcare facility to provide a variety of services to patients on the island.

The healthcare centre will include diagnostic imaging capabilities, emergency health services, primary healthcare and physiotherapy treatments.
